WHAT IS PSYCHOTHERAPY?
Psychotherapy or "talk" therapy is a method of treatment addressing issues that get in the way of living well.
People often seek therapy when they are struggling with the following:
-
feeling stressed or anxious
-
coming to terms with losses such as bereavement, divorce, or employment
-
lacking confidence, self-esteem or having feelings of underachievement
-
an inability to make or sustain good relationships
-
repeatedly becoming involved in unsatisfactory or destructive relationships
-
feeling depressed, sad, or empty
-
lacking a sense of purpose or feeling "stuck"
-
having unresolved issues from the past
-
difficulties relating to sexuality
-
problems at work
-
family conflicts
I provide a safe, calm and confidential setting in which we can identify, explore and work through the things that are troubling you. Through the relationship between us, I aim to help you leave behind old patterns that cause distress and suffering and develop new, healthier ways of being.
For recent onset problems with a clear focus, like bereavement or a problem at work, people come for once-weekly counselling for a short period.
For issues that are more complex people tend to opt for longer-term psychotherapy. This can be weekly, but two or three times a week helps us to work on issues more intensively. We will discuss the best approach for you and your schedule in our first meeting.
